Mining Event Logs to Support Workflow Resource Allocation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Currently, workflow technology is widely used to facilitate the business process in enterprise information systems (EIS), and it has the potential to reduce design time, enhance product quality and decrease product cost. However, significant limitations still exist: as an important task in the context of workflow, many present resource allocation (also known as ‘‘staff assignment’’) operations are still performed manually, which are time-consuming. This paper presents a data mining approach to address the resource allocation problem (RAP) and improve the productivity of workflow resource management. Specifically, an Apriorilike algorithm is used to find the frequent patterns from the event log, and association rules are generated according to predefined resource allocation constraints. Subsequently, a correlation measure named lift is utilized to annotate the negatively correlated resource allocation rules for resource reservation. Finally, the rules are ranked using the confidencemeasures as resource allocation rules. Comparative experiments are performed using C4.5, SVM, ID3, Naïve Bayes and the presented approach, and the results show that the presented approach is effective in both accuracy and candidate resource recommendations. 2012 Elsevier B.V. Decision Support Based on Process Mining
Process mining techniques allow for the analysis of business processes based on event logs. For example, the audit trails of a workflow management system, the transaction logs of an enterprise resource planning system, and the electronic patient records in a hospital can be used to discover models describing processes, organizations, and products. Moreover, such event logs can also be used to c...
متن کاملSemantic Process Mining Tools: Core Building Blocks
Process mining aims at discovering new knowledge based on information hidden in event logs. Two important enablers for such analysis are powerful process mining techniques and the omnipresence of event logs in today's information systems. Most information systems supporting (structured) business processes (e.g. ERP, CRM, and workflow systems) record events in some form (e.g. transaction logs, a...
متن کاملProject Title: USING PROCESS MINING IN ORGANIZATION – A CASE STUDY
Process mining techniques enable to produce information from event logs. The audit trails / logs of a workflow management system / enterprise resource planning system can be used to discover models of processes, organizations, and products. Furthermore, process mining can be used to observe deviations in business processes. The primary goal of process mining is to extract knowledge from these l...
متن کاملDiscovering Structured Event Logs from Unstructured Audit Trails for Workflow Mining
Workflow mining aims to find graph-based process models based on activities, emails, and various event logs recorded in computer systems. Current workflow mining techniques mainly deal with well-structured and -symbolized event logs. In most real applications where workflow management software tools are not installed, these structured and symbolized logs are not available. Instead, the artifact...
متن کاملDiscovering Process Models from Unlabelled Event Logs
Existing process mining techniques are able to discover process models from event logs where each event is known to have been produced by a given process instance. In this paper we remove this restriction and address the problem of discovering the process model when the event log is provided as an unlabelled stream of events. Using a probabilistic approach, it is possible to estimate the model ...
